I work with fire.

Not metaphorically. Literally. Metal in a crucible, heat climbing,
the moment before the pour when everything is still and the material is
deciding what it wants to become.

That is where Studio Scoria lives.

My name is Marie Tengren-Knight. I have been making jewelry by hand
since 2016, from a small studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I came to
metalwork through electroforming, copper and raw crystals, organic forms
that felt alive. My first studio, Blackbird & Sage, was built on
natural materials and quiet intention.

But the symbols kept returning.

Sigils. Runes. Protective marks. Appearing again and again in that
liminal space between sleep and waking, where clarity comes clearest. I
did not choose this direction. It chose me, and it kept insisting until I
listened.

I was born in the UK, surrounded by standing stones, burial mounds,
medieval carvings, witches marks scratched into old doorways and
hearths. I grew up understanding that objects carry meaning across
centuries. Not as decoration. As function. A mark etched into a
threshold was not art. It was protection. It was intention made
permanent in stone.

That understanding never left me.

When I finally committed to following what the symbols were asking,
everything shifted. Not because the work became easier. Because I
believed it was possible.

Studio Scoria was born from that commitment.

The Work

Each piece begins with a symbol. A rune, a sigil, a protective mark
drawn from the old world, each holding a purpose: protection, clarity,
transformation, sovereignty.

Metal is selected for resonance, not trend. Brass, bronze, copper,
silver. Shaped by hand using traditional metalsmithing and sandcasting
techniques. Fire. Tools. The rhythm of craft.

No machines. No molds. No mass production.

I work in flow state, slowly and deliberately, holding the wearer's
purpose and the symbol's power in mind throughout the making. This is
the moment a piece becomes more than jewelry. It becomes a talisman.

Stones are chosen with the same care: black tourmaline, obsidian,
onyx. Dark, grounding materials that anchor the work in elemental power.
Raw crystals electroformed in copper to preserve their natural form.
Nothing forced. Nothing manufactured.

Why Scoria

Scoria is volcanic stone, formed in fire, shaped by eruption, left porous where pressure once escaped.

It is a symbol of resilience, grounding strength, and transformation
under heat. The ability to endure intensity and become lighter, not
fractured.

This studio carries that same philosophy.

I refuse to industrialize the sacred. The magic of a talisman is not
in its appearance. It is in the intention infused into the metal as it
is shaped, in the slow rhythm of craft, in the presence brought to every
piece.

Who This Work Is For

These are not decorative pieces.

They are anchors. Reminders. Protective markers for women who have already walked through fire and reclaimed their sovereignty.
